FEDERATION 2016

The 2016 Federation Weekend - Western Grampians was hosted by the Wimmera Bushwalking Club on Oct 8th & 9th. It was based in the Laharum / Wartook Valley area in an effort to attract business to this recently fire affected region.

The event was a huge success, despite extreme wet weather leading up to the event and strong winds on the Sunday.

There were a total of 286 walkers on the Saturday and 260 walkers on Sunday. Participants attended from 32 different clubs around Victoria.
260 attended the relaxed social evening dinner on Saturday - a spit roast meal catered for by the local Laharum sports committee. Fortunately the weather held out for this outdoor meal, even if it did get a bit chilly by nights end.

Guest speaker - David Roberts (Parks VIC) - gave an interesting and entertaining presentation about the new Grampians Peaks Trail currently under construction. Hopefully this will entice many of the walkers to re-visit the Grampians in the next few years to try out the many new tracks.

An online survey following the event showed that the great majority of people really enjoyed the experience and much praise was offered to the Wimmera Bushwalkers and leaders for managing to run such a wonderful weekend.
